First and foremost we must address Illegal Immigration. I believe in a strong border and a clear and smart immigration policy. We can not keep Texas safe and sovereign until we have a strong border. In a post 9/11 world, it is a matter of National Security. We must know who is here, why they came and what are they doing here. We must get control of our border, deport those who are here illegally and prosecute those who have come to do harm to us. Any guest worker program must begin back in the person’s country of origin. No amnesty. The burden to our Tax system, Education, Healthcare and Law enforcement has been too great and is unsustainable.
We need to keep our Texas economy strong in these volatile times. Our state economy has endured well because of our conservative values of limited government and less taxation. We must find ways to reduce our tax burdens, especially on small businesses and make sure to reduce spending wherever possible. I believe that money is better spent by the people who earn rather than big government. We absolutely do not need a state income tax.
I am a strong supporter of our right to keep and bear arms. I have been a member of the NRA for years and support our Texas Concealed Handgun laws including the right to carry on campus.
We must establish reasonable term limits for our elected officials. We have seen the negative effects of career politicians who think only of the next election. I believe that ten years in the House, twelve years in the Senate and two terms as Governor should be enough time to accomplish anything that is necessary. I will commit to limiting myself to those guidelines even if the legislature will not.
I believe that life begins at conception and that abortion should only be an option when the life of the mother is in danger.
